Nigeria Confirms Joint Airstrikes With US on ISIS Targets in Northwest Region

Foreign Ministry clarifies security cooperation after President Trump announces deadly operation against terrorists

New Delhi: Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday officially confirmed that Nigerian security forces, working within a structured framework of international security cooperation that includes the United States, conducted coordinated air operations against terrorist hideouts in the country’s northwest.

The confirmation followed public remarks by United States President Donald Trump, who announced that American forces had launched a military strike targeting ISIS-linked militants operating in the region. Nigerian authorities clarified that the operation was carried out through joint planning and intelligence-sharing mechanisms aimed at countering the growing threat of terrorism and violent extremism.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the mission led to carefully targeted precision airstrikes designed to neutralize terrorist elements while minimizing harm to civilians. Officials emphasized that the operation forms part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to confront insecurity and protect communities affected by repeated extremist attacks.

Nigeria US airstrikes ISIS: Government Explains Joint Security Operation

In an official statement, the Nigerian Foreign Ministry stressed that the cooperation with international partners follows established global norms and bilateral agreements. The collaboration includes intelligence exchange, strategic coordination, and operational support conducted in line with international law and with full respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.

The ministry highlighted that such partnerships are built on shared commitments to regional and global security, noting that Nigeria continues to engage allies to address cross-border threats and dismantle terrorist networks operating within and beyond its borders.

Nigeria Reaffirms Civilian Protection and National Unity

Nigerian authorities reiterated that all counter-terrorism actions are guided by the overriding priority of protecting civilian lives. The government underlined its commitment to safeguarding national unity and ensuring the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnic background.

The statement further condemned all forms of terrorist violence, describing attacks against Christians, Muslims, and other communities as a violation of Nigeria’s core values and a serious threat to international peace and security.

Nigeria US airstrikes ISIS Linked to Escalating Terror Attacks

President Trump, in a late Thursday post on his Truth Social platform, described the operation as a direct response to rising attacks on Nigerian civilians. He said the targeted group had been responsible for brutal killings, particularly of Christian communities, at levels he described as unprecedented in modern times.

Trump claimed that warnings had been issued prior to the strikes and stated that the operation involved multiple coordinated actions by US forces. While he did not disclose specific operational details, he praised what he called highly successful strikes and reaffirmed his administration’s stance against radical Islamic terrorism.

Nigeria Pledges Continued Cooperation and Public Updates

The Nigerian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the federal government will continue working closely with international partners through established diplomatic and security channels. These efforts aim to weaken terrorist financing, disrupt logistics networks, and enhance Nigeria’s own intelligence and security institutions.

Officials also assured the public that the government will keep citizens informed through appropriate official channels as further developments unfold, reaffirming transparency in matters related to national security.
