India AI Ecosystem Gets Major Push as PM Modi Meets Leading AI Start-ups

Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds a high-level roundtable with top AI start-ups, stressing ethical innovation, inclusion and global competitiveness ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday convened a roundtable discussion with prominent Indian artificial intelligence start-ups, signalling the government’s strong commitment to strengthening the India AI ecosystem through ethical, inclusive and globally competitive innovation. The interaction highlighted the Centre’s vision of positioning India as a trusted global hub for responsible artificial intelligence development.

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg and was attended by representatives from 12 Indian AI start-ups selected for the AI for ALL: Global Impact Challenge. These companies are set to participate in the upcoming India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled for next month, which aims to showcase India’s growing influence in the global AI landscape.

India AI Ecosystem: Start-ups Highlight Cutting-Edge Innovations

During the interaction, the participating start-ups presented a wide range of advanced AI solutions spanning several high-impact sectors. Their work covered Indian language foundation models, multilingual large language models, speech-to-text systems, text-to-audio and video technologies, generative AI for 3D content creation, engineering simulations, material science research, advanced data analytics, and AI-powered healthcare diagnostics and medical research.

Start-up leaders emphasised the rapid growth and immense future potential of India’s artificial intelligence sector. They noted that the global centre of gravity for AI innovation and deployment is increasingly shifting towards India, supported by a strong talent pool, scalable digital public infrastructure, and a policy environment that encourages innovation. Several founders praised India’s focused efforts to build a robust and globally visible AI ecosystem.

India AI Ecosystem and India’s Emerging Global Leadership

Prime Minister Modi underlined the transformative impact artificial intelligence is expected to have on society, governance and economic growth. He said that hosting the India AI Impact Summit would further strengthen India’s leadership position in the global technology domain. Referring to AI entrepreneurs as the “co-architects of India’s future,” he highlighted the country’s unique ability to combine innovation with large-scale implementation.

Calling for a distinct Indian approach to artificial intelligence, the Prime Minister urged start-ups to develop solutions that reflect the ethos of “Made in India, Made for the World.” He stressed that trust is one of India’s most valuable assets and encouraged developers to ensure their AI models are ethical, unbiased, transparent and firmly rooted in data privacy and user protection.

Focus on Local Languages, Inclusion and Government Support

PM Modi also encouraged AI start-ups to actively promote indigenous content and regional languages through technology-driven solutions. He pointed out that India has the potential to become a global leader in affordable, inclusive and frugal AI innovation, particularly by addressing challenges in sectors such as healthcare, education and public services.

Assuring full government support, the Prime Minister said the Centre would continue to back Indian AI innovators in scaling their solutions both domestically and internationally. He reiterated that India’s AI journey must balance technological advancement with social responsibility and public trust.

The meeting was attended by senior executives from AI-focused organisations including Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, Gnani, Sarvam, and Tech Mahindra, among others. Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada were also present.
