Bhubaneswar: The Abhijit Majumdar death has sent shockwaves across Odisha, as the celebrated Odia music director and composer passed away on Sunday during treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
He was 54 and had been battling chronic liver disease along with several other health complications.
Abhijit Majumdar Dies After Health Deteriorates
Hospital sources stated that Majumdar’s condition worsened sharply on Saturday night.
He had been on ventilator support earlier but was later moved to the ICU after being taken off life support equipment.
The composer had been suffering from multiple ailments, including hypertension, hypothyroidism, and long-term liver illness, before slipping into a coma.
Medical Complications Led to Septic Shock and Cardiac Arrest
AIIMS officials said Majumdar developed a fever and infection on January 23, 2026. Despite treatment, the infection progressed into refractory septic shock.
He suffered a cardiac arrest on January 25 at 7:43 am, and although doctors attempted aggressive resuscitation under ACLS protocol, he could not be revived. He was declared dead at 9:02 am.

Born in Cuttack, Abhijit Majumdar began his musical journey in 1991.Over the years, he rose to become one of the most influential composers in the Odia entertainment industry.
He created music for more than 700 songs spanning:
- Odia films
- Sambalpuri cinema

- Independent musical projects
His compositions shaped an entire generation of listeners and filmmakers.

Majumdar’s passing has cast a deep shadow of grief across the Odia film fraternity.

Leaders Pay Tribute to Abhijit Majumdar
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described his death as an irreparable loss to the state’s culture.
“I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of music director Abhijit Majumdar. His demise is an irreparable loss to our music, cinema, and culture,” the CM wrote in a social media tribute.
Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik also condoled the composer’s passing.
“His contribution to the Odia music world will always be remembered,” Patnaik said, extending condolences to the bereaved family.

The Abhijit Majumdar death marks the end of an era in Odisha’s music landscape.
