Bhubaneswar: Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Wednesday said the state government is fully prepared to deal with the impact of the deep depression that crossed the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast near Kalingapatnam.

The system has moved inland and is gradually weakening, while district administrations across southern and western Odisha remain on alert. Speaking to the media, Pujari said there is no need for panic as response teams and officials continue to monitor the situation.

Odisha Deep Depression Weakens After Kalingapatnam Landfall

According to the minister, continuous monitoring is underway at both state and district levels after the system crossed the coast late Tuesday night.

Collectors in south and western Odisha have been placed on alert. ODRAF, Fire Services and other field teams have been deployed in vulnerable areas to respond to emergencies.

So far, officials have reported no major damage or loss of life. Waterlogging has occurred at some locations, while uprooted trees have been cleared promptly.

Night Patrolling Along Bansadhara and Rushikulya

Night patrolling is being carried out along river embankments, particularly near the Bansadhara and Rushikulya rivers in Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada districts.

Officials are monitoring water levels around the clock. Traffic is also being diverted to alternative routes wherever required because of waterlogging and unsafe road conditions.

Control rooms are functioning 24×7, while residents in low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert. Response teams are prepared to carry out evacuations if the situation requires it.

Heavy Rainfall Recorded in Several Odisha Districts

Heavy rainfall has been recorded in Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Nabarangpur. The weather situation remains under close watch as red and orange warnings have been issued for several districts.

Paralakhemundi, Gajapati: 121.4 mm
Gosani, Gajapati: 120.0 mm

District-Wise Situation in Odisha

Koraput

Light to moderate rainfall was reported. Similiguda recorded more than 100 mm of rain, with 193.9 mm recorded in the last 24 hours. No major damage has been reported.

Malkangiri

Traffic was diverted through three bridges near Kangurkonda, MV-90 and Kanyashram because of waterlogging on the National Highway. Coordination was carried out with Chhattisgarh Police to manage traffic movement.

Kalahandi

Isolated incidents of uprooted trees were reported. The trees were cleared and the situation was reported to be normal.

Nabarangpur

Traffic was diverted after water flowed over a bridge in Tentulikhunti block. Two houses were damaged after trees were uprooted, but the occupants were safely shifted.

Gajapati

The district recorded average rainfall of around 70 mm. Patrolling is continuing along the Bansadhara River, and an ODRAF team has been deployed.

Ganjam and Rayagada

District administrations are closely monitoring water levels in the Bansadhara and Rushikulya rivers. Night patrolling is also underway in sensitive locations.

Red and Orange Warnings Remain in Place

A red warning has been issued for Nabarangpur, while an orange warning is in place for Koraput, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir and Kalahandi.

Officials said the situation remains under constant observation. District administrations and response forces are continuing night patrolling, traffic management, river-level monitoring and restoration work in vulnerable areas.
