TMC MP Mahua Moitra expelled from Lok Sabha, Mamata Banerjee slams BJP

NEW DELHI: Mahua Moitra, MP of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), expelled from the Lok Sabha after the ethics tribunal determined that she had engaged in “cash-for-query” behaviour. The ferocious leader attacked the Ethics Committee for its report, which said she took cash and gifts from a businessman in exchange for coming to Parliament and pressuring the BJP government led by Narendra Modi to answer questions.

Discussions about whether asking for favors in exchange for parliamentary actions is unlawful gratification have been sparked by the Moitra case. Legal experts have highlighted the seriousness of this violation, arguing that the Privileges Committee ought to look into whether an MP was in fact compensated for performing parliamentary duties, as this would constitute a major breach of privilege and deserve contempt.

Mahua’s dismissal demonstrates the political incapacity of the BJP: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee released a fierce attack on the BJP on Friday, claiming that the removal of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha is just another example of the party’s “political bankruptcy.”

“When I heard what happened at the Lok Sabha today, I was shocked. Mahua wasn’t even given an opportunity to present her case. The I.N.D.I.A. bloc members of the Lok Sabha requested more time to review the 495-page report produced by the Parliament’s Ethics Committee. Speaking to the media on Friday afternoon in Kurseong, north Bengal, the chief minister stated that the debate was finished in just thirty minutes.

According to the chief minister, the development demonstrates the BJP’s political insolvency. “They are now turning to such vendetta politics, where Mahua became a victim, because they are unable to politically oppose the Trinamool Congress.” On this matter, our party stands with her,” the chief minister declared.
