Honeymoon Turns Tragic: Wife Sonam Arrested for Plotting Husband Murder, Meghalaya

In a shocking twist to a missing couple case in Meghalaya, authorities have revealed that Sonam Raghuvanshi, wife of the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi, allegedly plotted her husband’s murder during their honeymoon. Police have arrested three hired killers from Madhya Pradesh, and Sonam has surrendered, as the investigation unfolds into one of the most disturbing recent crimes involving newlyweds.

Breakthrough in Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case

Just after the couple went missing and a week after Raja’s body was discovered, Meghalaya Police made significant progress in the investigation.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma shared the update via social media, saying:

“Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved… 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered, and the operation is still on to catch one more assailant.”

Sonam Allegedly Plotted Husband’s Murder

Meghalaya’s Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang confirmed that Sonam had allegedly hired men to kill her husband.

  • One suspect was apprehended in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Two others were arrested from Indore by the SIT.
  • Sonam surrendered at Nandganj Police Station in UP and was taken into custody.

The suspects reportedly disclosed that Sonam orchestrated the plan. Additional individuals linked to the case are under investigation.

The couple, recently married in Madhya Pradesh, had been travelling in Sohra (Cherrapunjee) during their honeymoon when they went missing. Concerned family members, unable to contact them, rushed to Meghalaya, prompting a massive search involving the police, SDRF, NDRF, SOT, and drone surveillance.

Body Recovered from Gorge, Murder Weapon Found

Raja’s body was discovered last Monday at the base of Wei Sawdong Falls in a deep gorge, detected by a drone used in the search operation.

Authorities also recovered a dao (local machete) believed to be the murder weapon. This evidence led police to suspect foul play, prompting the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SP Herbert Pynniaid Kharkongor of East Khasi Hills.

Police were able to piece together the timeline and suspects using CCTV footage and local sightings of the couple. Gradually, this digital evidence helped track down those involved and connect them to the heinous crime.

What began as a romantic honeymoon in Meghalaya ended in a premeditated murder, shocking the nation. With the main accused—the victim’s wife—now in custody, and further arrests expected, authorities are working diligently to ensure justice is served in this deeply tragic and chilling case.
