Advocate Rakesh Kishore, who had earlier sparked nationwide controversy by throwing a shoe at former Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai inside the Supreme Court, was assaulted on Tuesday by unidentified individuals at the Karkardooma Court complex in Delhi. In a shocking incident inside the busy court premises, a group of people allegedly attempted to beat him with slippers, triggering chaos before bystanders intervened and pulled the attackers away.

The clip shows several individuals rushing towards Kishore and attempting to strike him with slippers while others try to stop the assault. In that case, Justice Gavai had observed that those who felt hurt could “ask the deity” for answers—a comment that provoked sharp criticism from the lawyer.
Kishore was also reportedly angered by Justice Gavai’s remarks during an overseas tour to Mauritius, where the former CJI had spoken against bulldozer demolitions in India and cited court orders staying such actions. Kishore viewed those remarks as objectionable, which he later cited as part of the reason for his courtroom protest.
Rakesh Kishore Attack: Legal Fallout After Supreme Court Incident
Following the shoe-throwing episode in the Supreme Court, swift disciplinary action was taken against Kishore. The Bar Council of India (BCI) suspended his licence to practise law with immediate effect and announced that formal disciplinary proceedings would be initiated against him. The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) also terminated his membership.
Soon after, the Attorney General for India granted consent to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against Kishore. However, during a subsequent hearing, a Supreme Court Bench indicated that it was not inclined to continue contempt action against him. Instead, the Court observed that it may focus on evolving better safeguards to prevent such security breaches in the future.
