Amazon Commits $35 Billion to India’s AI Future

Amazon on Wednesday announced a massive new investment commitment of more than $35 billion in India’s cloud computing and artificial intelligence ecosystem by 2030, reinforcing the country’s growing importance in the global AI race. The announcement was made at the Amazon Smbhav Summit in New Delhi and adds to nearly $40 billion that the tech giant has already poured into India over the past decade and a half.

The company said the fresh investment will focus on accelerating AI-backed digitisation, boosting exports, and driving large-scale job creation. The move aligns closely with India’s national ambitions to build a strong domestic artificial intelligence ecosystem and position itself as a global digital powerhouse.

By the end of this decade, Amazon expects the plan to create around 1 million direct, indirect, induced and seasonal jobs, quadruple exports linked to its ecosystem to $80 billion, and extend AI-driven benefits to 15 million small businesses across India.

Amazon AI Investment in India to Transform Cloud and Digital Infrastructure

Amazon said the latest funding will be channelled into strengthening India’s cloud capacity, artificial intelligence tools, and advanced digital infrastructure. Over the years, the company has steadily expanded its footprint in the country through large fulfillment centers, data centers, and robust digital payments infrastructure.

With the new $35 billion commitment, Amazon is now doubling down on AI-first technologies that can support startups, exporters, manufacturers and service providers at scale. The company believes this will play a key role in making Indian businesses globally competitive in the AI-driven economy.

Job Creation, Exports and Small Businesses Get a Major Boost

One of the most significant outcomes of the investment will be large-scale employment generation. Amazon estimates that the fresh spending will lead to the creation of nearly one million additional jobs over the next six years across multiple sectors including logistics, cloud services, AI development, manufacturing, and support services.

Exports supported by Amazon’s platform and logistics network are also expected to quadruple to $80 billion by 2030. In addition, nearly 15 million Indian small businesses are projected to gain access to AI-powered tools for marketing, operations, customer engagement, and global trade.

This push is expected to significantly uplift micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which form the backbone of India’s economy.

Amazon AI Investment in India Comes Amid Big Tech Rush

Amazon’s announcement comes shortly after Microsoft revealed plans to invest $17.5 billion in India’s AI infrastructure, underscoring the intense competition among global hyperscalers to secure a strong position in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets.

India’s massive user base, growing cloud adoption, and government focus on digital public infrastructure have made it a prime destination for long-term AI and data-center investments. Analysts say the flow of capital from global tech giants will accelerate innovation, deepen startup ecosystems, and enhance enterprise adoption of advanced technologies.

Amazon Calls It a Long-Term Bet on India’s Digital Future

Speaking on the occasion, Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President for Emerging Markets at Amazon, said the company is proud to have played a role in India’s digital journey for over 15 years. He added that Amazon now aims to act as a major catalyst in India’s next phase of growth by making artificial intelligence more accessible to millions.

According to Amazon, democratizing access to AI will help Indian entrepreneurs, sellers, students and developers compete on a global scale while building new home-grown digital solutions.

With this landmark commitment, India is set to become one of Amazon’s most strategic AI and cloud investment hubs worldwide — a move that could reshape the country’s digital economy through the end of the decade.
