DISPUR: The death toll from the ongoing Assam floods has climbed to 101, with casualties reported across several districts as heavy rainfall and rising river levels continue to affect large parts of the state.
According to the latest Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) Assam bulletin issued on Monday, floods and intensive rainfall have so far resulted in 101 deaths.
Assam Flood Situation Remains Critical
Several areas across Assam continue to experience inundation as water levels rise in rivers and floodwaters spread into villages and residential areas.
The flooding has disrupted normal life, with residents in affected locations facing difficulties as water enters homes and surrounding areas.
Authorities are continuing to monitor vulnerable locations and maintain relief and rescue arrangements for people affected by the floods.
Thousands Affected in Golaghat
The situation had earlier worsened in parts of Golaghat district, where the Dhansiri River overflowed and floodwater entered homes in areas of Marangi Mouza.
Around 14,000 families and 52,000 people were reported affected in the Khumtai Assembly constituency, while approximately 1,300 people took shelter in 32 relief camps.
Some residents have remained on the upper floors of their houses to protect their belongings and livestock, while others have moved to relief camps operated by the administration.
Relief and Rescue Operations Continue
The administration has established relief camps for people displaced by the floods and is carrying out rescue operations in areas where residents remain trapped or affected by rising water.
Riverine areas remain particularly vulnerable as continued rainfall can cause further rises in water levels and spread flooding into nearby settlements.
Authorities are maintaining surveillance of the situation and continuing relief measures as Assam remains under the impact of the ongoing monsoon.
