Bakrid 2025: Muslims Across India Celebrate Eid al-Adha with Prayers, Sacrifice and Devotion

Published on

New Delhi, June 7, 2025: Muslims across India are celebrating Bakrid (Eid al-Adha) on Saturday with immense religious fervour, devotion, and community spirit. The day marks a time of reflection, sacrifice, and unity as believers commemorate the prophetic tradition of Prophet Abraham’s obedience to God.

Morning Prayers Mark the Start of Celebrations

The day began with special Eid prayers held at mosques and Eidgahs across the country. Cities like Delhi, Noida, Bhagalpur, Bhopal, and Khurja witnessed large congregations of devotees attending the morning Namaz, offering gratitude and seeking blessings.

In Noida, prayers began around 7:00 a.m., while in Greater Noida, the timings ranged from 6:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., based on different mosque announcements. In Bhopal, the Eidgah Mosque saw a heavy turnout, while Khurja’s Eidgah and Bhagalpur’s Shahjangi Maidan and CTS Ground were also crowded with worshippers.

The Significance of Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha, or the “Festival of Sacrifice,” honours the faith of Prophet Abraham, who was willing to sacrifice his son at God’s command. As part of the tradition, Muslims worldwide perform the ritual of Qurbani—the sacrifice of livestock such as goats, sheep, or buffalo—and distribute the meat to family, friends, and the underprivileged.

Tensions in Kalyan Amid Parallel Events

In Kalyan, Maharashtra, heightened police deployment was reported near the historic Durgadi Fort, where both the Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) and the Eknath Shinde-led faction had planned separate events under the legacy of Dharmaveer Anand Dighe’s “Ghantanaad” movement. Despite the potential for tension, Bakrid prayers concluded peacefully in the region.

Community Spirit, Charity, and Family Gatherings

As the day progresses, families are expected to gather for festive meals, visit neighbours and relatives, and engage in acts of charity. Many community kitchens and mosques across India have arranged for distribution of meat and food packages to ensure that the underprivileged also partake in the festival joy.

Security Tightened Across Cities

To ensure a peaceful Bakrid, local administrations in major cities have beefed up security, especially in areas witnessing large public gatherings. Law enforcement officials were seen monitoring prayer sites and public areas to prevent any untoward incidents.

Bakrid 2025 has seen peaceful and heartfelt celebrations across India, with communities coming together to observe one of Islam’s holiest festivals. With its core messages of sacrifice, compassion, and unity, Eid al-Adha continues to be a powerful reminder of shared values and communal harmony.
