Bhubaneswar: The Ama Bus accident Odisha drew strong reaction from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of an auto rickshaw driver in a collision near Rupali Square. Extending condolences to the bereaved family, the Chief Minister announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Majhi also wished a speedy recovery to the student who was injured in the accident and assured strict action to prevent recurrence of such incidents involving public transport services.
Ama Bus Accident Odisha Prompts Compensation and Immediate Action
The fatal accident near Rupali Square has raised serious concerns over the safety of Ama Bus services operating in the capital region. Acknowledging repeated incidents involving these buses, the Chief Minister directed the Transport Department to work closely with Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) to urgently improve safety standards.
He stressed that public transport must be reliable and safe, especially for vulnerable road users, and said lapses leading to loss of life would not be tolerated.
Focus on Driver Training, Health and Sensitivity
Majhi emphasised the importance of enhancing driver skills through structured and regular training programmes. He instructed officials to design comprehensive modules that go beyond technical driving skills.
According to the Chief Minister, the training must also cover physical fitness, mental well-being, stress management, and the development of a sensitive and responsible attitude among drivers to ensure safer roads.
Routine Fitness Checks and Monitoring Squad Ordered
Taking a firm stand, the Chief Minister directed Motor Vehicle Inspectors to conduct routine fitness inspections of all Ama buses. He also ordered the Commerce and Transport Department to constitute a dedicated squad to monitor vehicle fitness and ensure strict compliance with safety norms.
Majhi further advised the department to conduct periodic reviews of bus operations so that shortcomings are identified early and corrective measures are implemented in time.

CRUT Announces Aid, Bus Driver Arrested
Meanwhile, CRUT announced an additional financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for the family of the deceased auto rickshaw driver. The move was aimed at providing immediate relief to the affected family.
Police officials confirmed that the Ama bus driver involved in the collision has been arrested, and further investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is underway.
The Ama Bus accident Odisha has once again highlighted the urgent need for tighter regulation, better training, and continuous monitoring of public transport systems to ensure passenger and road safety.
