Defence Ministry Refutes Media Claims on Pahalgam Attackers’ Identity Report
New Delhi: The Defence Ministry of India has categorically denied issuing any official report detailing the identities or backgrounds of the militants involved in the recent Pahalgam terror attack. This clarification comes amid widespread circulation of an alleged report across mainstream media and social media platforms.
No Official Report from Armed Forces
In a formal statement released today, the Ministry said:
“A report on identities and background of the Pahalgam attackers is being circulated through media/social media handles and attributed to the Services. No authorised media handle of the Indian Armed Forces has prepared or issued any such document.”
The statement stressed that no remarks of this nature have been issued by the Public Relations Offices of the Armed Forces or by any official spokesperson.

Clarification on Circulating Reports
The Ministry added that the circulating document appears to be an unofficial compilation of post-encounter findings, likely collated from open sources.
“The report appears to be a compilation of information on post-encounter findings, collated from open sources,” the statement noted.
The Defence Ministry has urged the media and the public to refrain from sharing unverified information, emphasizing the need to rely only on official sources for updates related to national security.
The clarification follows the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed the lives of brave soldiers and sparked outrage across the country. With investigations still underway, misinformation and unauthorised reporting have the potential to jeopardize operational integrity.
