- Delhi Police will regulate traffic on several central routes on September 12 from 8:15 PM to 11 PM.

New Delhi: Delhi traffic restrictions will be in place across several central routes on Saturday, September 12, as the national capital hosts the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
Delhi Police has announced regulated vehicle movement between 8:15 PM and 11:00 PM to facilitate the movement of VVIP motorcades carrying heads of state, foreign delegates and other dignitaries attending the summit.
The restrictions will particularly affect roads around Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan, the main venue for the summit, as well as routes connecting important diplomatic areas.
Delhi Traffic Restrictions on September 12
The area immediately surrounding Bharat Mandapam will be treated as a prohibited area for general vehicular movement during the specified evening period.
Several major roads will either face regulated movement or temporary closures. These include Mathura Road, Janpath, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Satya Marg and Shanti Path.
Delhi Police has established 22 primary diversion points and identified more than 35 connected corridors to divert non-essential traffic away from central and New Delhi areas.
Parking within 200 metres of the controlled roads will not be permitted. Vehicles parked in these areas may be towed.
Metro Recommended for Airport and Railway Travel
The Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters travelling between Central Delhi, the Indira Gandhi International Airport and major railway stations to use the Delhi Metro.
The Metro services will remain operational during the traffic restrictions.
Passengers travelling to IGI Airport’s Terminals 1, 2 and 3 have been advised to use the Airport Express Line or take alternative peripheral routes, including Urban Extension Road II and NH-48.
Railway passengers travelling to Old Delhi, New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations have also been advised to use alternative routes through Ring Road, Rani Jhansi Marg and Jawaharlal Nehru Marg.
Commercial Vehicles Face Border Restrictions
Commercial vehicles that are not destined for Delhi will not be allowed to enter the capital during the active restriction period.
Emergency services, including ambulances and other medical vehicles, will continue to receive priority movement. Essential supply services will also be facilitated through designated routes.
Local residents living within restricted areas will be allowed to access their neighbourhoods after showing valid government identification.
Traffic Updates to Be Coordinated in Real Time
India is hosting the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit from September 11 to 13 at Bharat Mandapam. Delegations from BRICS member countries and invited partner nations are expected to move through the capital during the summit.
Delhi Police and other agencies have strengthened security and traffic arrangements across the National Capital Region.
Authorities are also coordinating traffic updates and route changes with digital navigation platforms to help motorists respond to diversions during the VVIP movements.
Commuters travelling through central Delhi on Saturday evening are therefore advised to allow additional travel time and use alternative routes or the Metro wherever possible.
