Double Low Pressure Triggers Heavy Rainfall Alert in Odisha for Next 2 Days

Published on

Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Center has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across Odisha for the next two days due to the simultaneous formation of two low-pressure systems — one in the Bay of Bengal (BoB) and another in the Arabian Sea.

Twin Low-Pressure Systems Active

A low-pressure area has formed over the eastern BoB, particularly in the Gangetic West Bengal valley bordering southwest Bangladesh. As a result, several areas in northern Odisha, adjoining West Bengal, and Jharkhand are already witnessing rainfall.

Simultaneously, another low-pressure zone has developed over southern Gujarat and nearby regions in the Arabian Sea, under the influence of an active cyclonic circulation. The system is likely to intensify further, increasing the chances of widespread rain.

Rain Forecast for Odisha

The Meteorological Center forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha over the next 48 hours. Mayurbhanj district is likely to receive particularly intense rainfall today, with isolated heavy showers expected in surrounding areas.

Warning to Fishermen

Due to the turbulent sea conditions caused by these twin low-pressure systems, fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea during this period.

The IMD continues to monitor the situation and may issue further updates as the systems evolve.
