A tragic train accident in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district claimed at least four lives and left several others injured after a passenger train collided with a goods train near Jairamnagar station on Tuesday evening.

According to initial reports, the Korba Passenger Express rammed into a stationary goods train near Jairamnagar station in Bilaspur district.

District Collector Sanjay Aggarwal confirmed the deaths and said the toll could rise as rescue operations continue. The passenger train was travelling from Korba to Bilaspur at the time of the accident.

Eyewitness videos showed the front coach of the Korba Passenger Express mounted on the goods train due to the force of the impact. Locals and authorities rushed to the scene, assisting in the ongoing rescue and relief operations.

Rescue and Relief Operations Underway

Railway and medical teams have reached the accident site, with efforts ongoing to assist the injured and clear debris from the tracks.

Rail traffic on the Bilaspur–Howrah route has been severely disrupted, with multiple trains either cancelled or diverted. The collision also damaged overhead electrical lines and signalling systems, which may take several hours to restore.

The incident took place on the Bilaspur–Katni section, one of the busiest railway corridors in the region.
