Foxconn Row: Karnataka CM releases letter of appreciation by CEO Young Liu

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday issued a letter of appreciation after opposition parties dubbed the ruling BJP’s announcement regarding to set up an iPhone assembling unit by Foxconn in Bengaluru as a publicity stunt.

Young Liu, CEO of Foxconn, wrote a letter of thanks to Basavaraj Bomma and said the Foxconn team’s visit to Bengaluru was a great success. My team will be in close contact with your team to facilitate this and ensure the success of “Project Elephant” in Bangalore. As a potential investment destination.

“I am confident that this project will lay a strong foundation for our other multiple plans, spanning mechanical/precision machinery, electric vehicle, IC design and semiconductor segments to consider your state as a potential investment destination,” Young Liu, Chairman of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd (Foxconn Technology Group) said.

The letter read, “Yourself, Ministers of Higher Education, IT, BT, Ministers of Large and Medium Industries, Chief Secretaries of Karnataka Government and other senior Govt., and wider team are invited to participate in events and activities planned throughout the day.” They cooperated to ensure that exchanges were carried out. Maximizing and integrally realizing the interests of all stakeholders involved. “

“We were welcomed at the airport by Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan, Minister of Higher Education. The visit began with a walkthrough of the world class new Terminal 2, recently inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by a detailed presentation by senior executives from Bengaluru Airport International Limited (BIAL) on cargo infrastructure and facilities at the airport” Young Liu stated.

“We proceeded for a site visit at the proposed area, near the airport. Meeting Dr. Murugesh Nirani, Minister for Large and Medium Industries, during lunch, marked an important highlight during the day,” the letter said.

JD(S) leader and former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy had questioned the ruling BJP to clarify whether the announcement regarding Foxconn by the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was a publicity stunt? Or, whether the MoU was signed at all?

On social media, Kumaraswamy claimed that the Karnataka BJP government has a policy of maximum publicity and a policy of zero results. This is their goal and statement. The government is busy with commercials and does not care about people’s welfare, development and job creation.

“Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and two other ministers got free publicity on Friday by saying that iPhone maker Foxconn of Taiwan had come to the state for investment. They held signed letters in their hands stating that the MoU had been signed and presented themselves to the media,” Kumaraswamy said.

Earlier, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the MoU with Foxconn is a major boost to India’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat ambitions and a testament to Karnataka’s success in attracting investment to the state in the electronics manufacturing and assembly segment.
