World leaders have expressed deep sorrow and solidarity following the tragic crash of Air India flight AI171, which went down shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people including 12 crew members, crashed into a doctors’ hostel in the Meghaninagar area, leading to a major rescue and recovery operation.

French President Emmanuel Macron conveyed heartfelt condolences, stating his thoughts were with the victims’ families and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Russian President Vladimir Putin sent messages to both PM Modi and President Droupadi Murmu, offering deep sympathy and wishing a swift recovery to those injured.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the crash as “absolutely devastating” and confirmed that the Australian government is closely monitoring the situation. Similarly, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney noted that one Canadian was among the passengers and confirmed that transportation authorities are coordinating with Indian counterparts.

Other leaders who expressed their grief include Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, all offering prayers and support to the Indian people during this tragedy.

Air India confirmed the aircraft involved was a Boeing 787-8 with registration VT-ANB. Of the 242 people on board, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were from the UK, 7 from Portugal, and one from Canada. A passenger hotline has been activated for relatives seeking updates.

In response to the disaster, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deployed 150 personnel for rescue efforts. Additionally, three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been mobilized from Gandhinagar to assist at the crash site.
