IMD Issues Red Alert for West Coast; Thunderstorms Expected in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Gujarat

Published on

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall along the west coast of India, including Konkan, Goa, and Coastal Karnataka. Despite no further advancement of the monsoon, intense rainfall continues in these coastal regions.

IMD senior scientist Dr. RK Jenamani stated that Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Gujarat are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning over the next two days.

Dr. Jenamani noted a significant drop in maximum temperatures across Northwest India, including Delhi, with most weather stations recording temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius, which is considered normal for this time of year.

Monsoon Stagnant Despite Intense West Coast Rain

Although the southwest monsoon has shown no progress in other parts of the country, the west coast continues to receive substantial rainfall, particularly in Goa, Konkan, and Coastal Karnataka, leading to the red alert by IMD.

With thunderstorm activity and heavy rains expected to persist in both coastal and northern regions, the IMD has advised the public and local authorities to remain alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
