NEW DELHI: The India Vs Afghanistan T20I series 2026 has been officially confirmed, with Afghanistan set to host India in a three match series at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium from September 13 to 17. The arrangement allows Afghanistan to stage its designated home fixtures in India, continuing a model used by the Afghan team in recent years.

The three matches are scheduled for September 13, 15 and 17. The series forms part of Afghanistan’s Future Tours Programme and gives both teams another opportunity to compete in the shortest international format.

India Vs Afghanistan T20I Series 2026 Confirmed in Delhi

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have agreed on Delhi as the venue for the series. Afghanistan will retain its status as the host, even though the matches will take place on Indian soil.

This arrangement reflects Afghanistan’s continued use of overseas venues for home international cricket. Ongoing security conditions have prevented the country from regularly staging international fixtures at home, making India an important venue for the Afghan team’s international calendar.

India Vs Afghanistan T20I Series 2026 Builds Cricketing Ties

BCCI President Mithun Manhas said the Indian board remains committed to supporting the growth of cricket in Afghanistan and giving Afghan players opportunities to compete at the highest level.

BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia also said the board was pleased to support the Afghanistan Cricket Board in staging the T20I series in India.

The upcoming series adds to an increasingly regular cricketing relationship between the two countries. Afghanistan recently toured India for a multi-format assignment, while the teams also met in a three match T20I series in January 2024.

India Vs Afghanistan Cricket Rivalry Continues

The cricketing relationship between India and Afghanistan has expanded significantly over the past decade. India hosted Afghanistan’s historic first Test in 2018, marking an important milestone in Afghanistan’s development as a Test-playing nation.

The two sides have since continued to meet across formats, giving Afghanistan valuable exposure against one of international cricket’s strongest teams.

With the September T20I series now confirmed, attention will turn to squad selection, player combinations and preparations for the three matches in Delhi. The series will also provide another major international platform for Afghanistan’s players as the country’s cricket programme continues to develop.
