Tianjin: Chinese President Xi Jinping said that achieving a “Dragon-Elephant Dance” is the right choice for China and India, describing both nations as friendly neighbours and supportive partners. A Chinese readout of the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi, held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, highlighted the leaders’ vision of building a stable, cooperative, and long-term partnership.
Xi emphasized that last year’s successful meeting in Kazan had already marked a restart for bilateral ties, opening new ground for cooperation. This year, as both countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, Xi said the Tianjin meeting should be used to elevate relations further and promote sustained, healthy, and stable development.
India-China relations 2025 built on strategic trust
Xi outlined proposals to shape stronger relations, beginning with the need for enhanced strategic communication and mutual trust. He said that if both nations continue to view each other as partners rather than rivals, they can achieve lasting stability and shared growth. Modi, in turn, echoed this sentiment, affirming that India and China share far more consensus than differences.
India-China relations 2025 emphasize border peace and cooperation
Both leaders acknowledged the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border areas. Modi reiterated India’s readiness to work with China in seeking a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary question. He stressed that the border issue should not define the entirety of bilateral ties.
Xi also recalled the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, advocated by earlier generations of leadership, as guiding values that both countries should uphold in order to coexist harmoniously.
Both Modi and Xi agreed that their nations, being at crucial stages of development, must expand exchanges and cooperation across multiple fields. They highlighted direct flights, trade, and people-to-people exchanges as practical areas for strengthening ties. Modi said such initiatives not only benefit India and China but also have a global impact.
The two leaders also emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation. Xi called on both countries to uphold multilateralism, coordinate on major international and regional issues, defend international fairness, and promote a multipolar world. Modi added that closer collaboration between India and China could help shape the 21st century as a true Asian century.
The Prime Minister congratulated China for its successful chairmanship of the SCO and extended his best wishes for the Tianjin Summit. Both leaders agreed that their partnership would contribute to peace and prosperity in Asia and beyond.
