New Delhi: In a significant step to strengthen bilateral ties and promote Indian manufacturing on the global stage, India is exporting ten advanced Diesel Electric Locomotives of 3300 horsepower to Mozambique. These high-powered locomotives are manufactured by Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), Varanasi, under the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The locomotives are not only technologically sophisticated but also come equipped with several driver-friendly features, setting new standards in comfort and operational efficiency. Each unit includes:

  • An aesthetically designed cab
  • Toilet facilities
  • A refrigerator

These additions ensure better working conditions for locomotive drivers and reflect India’s commitment to delivering products that meet international workplace standards.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the locomotives are built to operate efficiently under diverse geographical conditions and are suitable for both freight and passenger services. The export is part of India’s growing partnership with Mozambique and its expanding footprint in railway diplomacy across Africa.

A formal handover ceremony was held, where senior officials from both nations reaffirmed their shared vision of infrastructural growth and mutual cooperation.

Key Features of the Exported Locomotives:
