India Thanks Partner Nations for Support in ‘Operation Sindhu’ Evacuations

Published on

New Delhi: India has officially extended its gratitude to the governments of Israel, Iran, Jordan, Egypt, Armenia, and Turkmenistan for their support in facilitating evacuation operations under Operation Sindhu, launched amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

During the weekly press briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that 14 special flights have so far been deployed to bring back Indian nationals stranded in conflict zones, particularly in Iran and Israel.

With Israeli airspace shut due to the ongoing conflict, India redirected evacuees to bordering nations like Jordan and Egypt, from where special flights were arranged to repatriate citizens safely.

Evacuation Figures: Operation Sindhu at a Glance

  • From Iran:
    • 3,426 Indian nationals evacuated
    • 11 OCI cardholders
    • 9 Nepalese citizens, some Sri Lankan nationals, and 1 Iranian spouse of an Indian national
  • From Israel:
    • 818 Indian nationals brought back via 4 special flights

The spokesperson reaffirmed that India’s commitment to the safety of its citizens remains “an unwavering priority” for the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Indian Community in Affected Regions

India maintains a significant presence in both countries:

  • Approximately 10,000 Indian nationals in Iran
  • Around 40,000 Indian nationals in Israel

The MEA emphasized that evacuation efforts are continuing, with constant coordination with local authorities and embassies.

Launched on June 18, Operation Sindhu reflects India’s swift diplomatic and logistical response to protect its diaspora during geopolitical crises. The operation’s success is attributed to multilateral cooperation and agile foreign policy execution, the MEA said.
