Jagatsinghpur: Two men died after reportedly suffering electric shocks while ploughing a paddy field at Benukhanda village under Jagatsinghpur Sadar Police Station limits on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Sagar Bhoi and Ajay Kumar Sahu. According to preliminary information, the two came into contact with a live electric wire while working in the field.
Both men were rescued and rushed to the Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital, but doctors declared them dead.
Jagatsinghpur Electrocution Death Triggers Protest
The deaths led to anger among the victims’ families and local residents.
Family members, supported by villagers, placed the bodies near the Jagatsinghpur Municipality office and blocked the road. Protesters alleged that negligence by local electricity department personnel was responsible for the presence of the live wire in the agricultural area.
They also demanded adequate compensation for the families of the deceased.

The road blockade caused traffic disruption, with several vehicles reportedly stranded in the area.
Police personnel reached the location to prevent the situation from escalating. The local Tehsildar, Additional Superintendent of Police and Sub-Divisional Police Officer also arrived and began discussions with the protesters.
Officials are attempting to pacify the families and residents while taking stock of the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The incident has also raised concerns over electrical safety in agricultural areas, particularly where power infrastructure passes close to fields used for cultivation.
