India is closely monitoring the crude oil situation amid the Middle East war, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar told the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The minister warned that the deteriorating security environment in West Asia could affect energy supplies, trade routes, and the safety of Indian nationals in the region.
Addressing Parliament during the Budget Session, Jaishankar said the government was tracking developments carefully as tensions across West Asia intensify.
“We are monitoring developments very closely. The security situation in the region has deteriorated significantly,” he told members of the Upper House.

Jaishankar crude oil situation Middle East war raises energy concerns
India imports a large portion of its crude oil from the Middle East, making regional stability crucial for the country’s economy.
Jaishankar noted that the ongoing conflict has begun to disrupt daily life and economic activities in several parts of the region. Supply chain risks and instability could impact global oil markets and trade flows if the crisis worsens.
“The region is key to our energy security and includes many important suppliers of oil and gas,” he said.
India is particularly concerned about potential disruptions to maritime trade routes and oil shipments from major energy exporters in West Asia.

Safety of Indians in West Asia a key priority
The government is also focused on protecting Indian citizens living across the region.
Jaishankar told the House that around one crore Indians reside in West Asia, highlighting the importance of stability for the diaspora community.
He added that thousands of Indians currently in Iran for education or employment are being closely monitored by the government as the conflict spreads.
“The well-being and security of the Indian community is our priority,” he said.
India calls for dialogue and diplomacy
Jaishankar reiterates diplomatic solution to Middle East crisis
India has once again called for diplomatic engagement to de-escalate the conflict.
Jaishankar said New Delhi reiterated its position earlier this month, urging all parties to resolve disputes through dialogue rather than military confrontation.
“We believe and continue to believe that dialogue and diplomacy should be encouraged to resolve matters in the Middle East,” he said.
The minister also expressed condolences over civilian casualties and destruction caused by the ongoing fighting across multiple countries.

Maritime requests from Iran under review
Jaishankar informed Parliament that Iran had recently approached India regarding maritime logistics.
According to the minister, Tehran sought permission for three ships to dock at Indian ports. The government evaluated the request based on national interest and security considerations.
India is watching the crude oil situation and security developments in West Asia with heightened caution as the conflict escalates. With energy security, trade routes, and the safety of millions of Indians at stake, New Delhi continues to push for dialogue and diplomacy while preparing for possible economic and strategic impacts.
