Jaishankar Says India-US Ties Not Defined by Pakistan, Dismisses Trump’s Ceasefire Claim

Published on

Washington: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has made it clear that India’s relationship with the United States stands independent of Pakistan, stressing that the growing India-US partnership is based on shared strategic interests and not influenced by “third countries.”

Speaking at a press conference in Washington, Dr. Jaishankar stated, “We should stop defining ourselves through the lens of others. India-US ties are built on mutual benefit—be it trade, technology, energy, investment, or mobility.”

No Role for Trump in Sindoor Ceasefire

Dr. Jaishankar also refuted claims by former US President Donald Trump that he played a role in brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor. He clarified that the ceasefire was negotiated directly between military officials of both countries, without external mediation. “The record is clear,” Jaishankar said bluntly, dispelling any speculation.

Focus on Indo-Pacific, Trade, and Security

During his Washington visit, Jaishankar participated in the Quad Ministerial Meeting, alongside US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the foreign ministers of Australia and Japan. The leaders collectively condemned the Pahalgam massacre, carried out by a terrorist group based in Pakistan.

He also held bilateral meetings with Rubio, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, with discussions focusing on defence collaboration, clean and renewable energy, and economic cooperation.

This visit further solidifies the growing strategic alignment between New Delhi and Washington amid global shifts in energy, security, and trade dynamics.
