Bhubaneswar: A man was killed after being attacked by a rogue elephant at Badakhali village under Banarpal block in Angul district on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Bijan Dakua, a resident of Badakhali village. According to reports, Bijan was on his way to his farmland when a wild elephant suddenly charged at him and trampled him to death.

Villagers Protest, Demand Compensation

Following the tragic incident, Bijan’s family members and local villagers staged a protest demanding adequate compensation for the bereaved family and stronger safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Forest Department Assures Support

Officials from the Forest Department reached the spot soon after the incident and assured the family that the prescribed compensation will be provided as per government norms. They also promised to take necessary steps to address the villagers’ concerns and prevent further human-elephant conflicts in the area.

Human-elephant conflict has been a recurring issue in several parts of Odisha, especially in Angul, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar districts, where wild elephants often stray into human settlements in search of food and water.
