Mumbai’s chase was powered by a brilliant opening stand between Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton.
- Rohit Sharma scored 78
- Ryan Rickelton scored 81

Earlier, KKR posted a strong total of 220 for 4 in 20 overs.
- Ajinkya Rahane top scored with 67 off 40 balls
- Angkrish Raghuvanshi contributed 51 off 29 balls
Their innings ensured KKR crossed the 200 mark comfortably on a batting friendly surface.
Bowling Struggles Cost KKR the Match
Despite putting up a big total, KKR’s bowling attack could not defend the score.
Vaibhav Arora provided a breakthrough, but the rest of the attack struggled to contain MI’s aggressive batting.
Captain Rahane later admitted that the inexperienced bowling lineup found it difficult against a strong MI batting unit.
Shardul Thakur Named Player of the Match
Mumbai’s Shardul Thakur earned the Player of the Match award for his impactful performance.
He highlighted the challenge of bowling on a batting friendly pitch and expressed pride in performing at his home ground.
Pitch and Match Context
The Wankhede pitch featured unusual grass cover, but it still played true for batters.
Both captains had noted the conditions before the match, and as expected, it turned into a high scoring contest.
This result underlines a key trend in T20 cricket:
Even a 220 run total is not safe on batting friendly grounds like Wankhede.
Mumbai Indians will take strong confidence from this win, while Kolkata Knight Riders will need to address their bowling concerns quickly.
