Bhubaneswar: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the horrific gang-rape incident that occurred at Gopalpur sea beach on Sunday evening. In response, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has directed Odisha DGP Y.B. Khurania to ensure a swift, time-bound investigation and submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within three days.
The NCW has also urged the DGP to arrest all the accused involved in the heinous crime and ensure the victim receives free medical treatment and psychological counseling. Additionally, the commission has recommended compensation for the survivor under Section 396 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
The incident involved a group of 10 individuals, including four minors, who allegedly tied up the 20-year-old victim’s male companion and raped her at the beach.
Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M later confirmed that all 10 accused were arrested while attempting to flee the state.
