Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly Budget Session disruption intensified on its second day as Opposition lawmakers stalled proceedings over alleged paddy procurement irregularities. Continuous protests forced repeated adjournments, preventing legislative business from moving forward.

Members from the Opposition accused the government of ignoring farmer grievances linked to procurement delays and administrative lapses.

Opposition Disrupts Proceedings in Odisha Legislative Assembly

The session descended into disorder when legislators from the Biju Janata Dal and the Indian National Congress raised slogans inside the House. Several members entered the Well and placed paddy bundles on the reporters’ table as a symbolic protest.

Opposition leaders claimed the action reflected the distress of farmers facing delayed procurement and payment issues across the state.

Speaker’s Appeals Fail to Restore Order

Despite repeated appeals from Speaker Surama Padhy to allow proceedings to continue, protesting members refused to relent. The sustained sloganeering and demonstrations left the Chair with little option but to adjourn the House.
