BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a major relaxation for Odisha Civil Services age limit, raising the upper age threshold for government job aspirants from 32 to 42 years.

Speaking at the 80th Independence Day celebrations in Bhubaneswar, Majhi said the decision was aimed at giving candidates more opportunities in a highly competitive government recruitment environment.

The Chief Minister also announced the removal of the existing maximum limit of six attempts for the Odisha Civil Services Examination. Candidates will now be able to appear for the examination until they reach the applicable upper age limit.

Majhi said government vacancies are limited while competition for individual posts remains intense. The age relaxation is intended to allow more eligible candidates to compete rather than lose their opportunity because of the previous age ceiling.

The removal of the six-attempt restriction represents another significant change. Aspirants will no longer have to use their limited attempts within a fixed number, provided they remain within the prescribed age limit.

Odisha Civil Services Age Limit Reform Comes With Anti-Corruption Warning

The Chief Minister also announced relaxation of certain restrictions governing compassionate appointments following the death of government employees.

At the same time, Majhi reiterated his government’s zero-tolerance approach towards corruption. He claimed that anti-corruption measures have resulted in a conviction rate of more than 50 percent in corruption cases.

He specifically warned officials involved in examinations to maintain a clean and transparent recruitment process. Any deviation or irregularity, he said, would invite immediate and strict action.

Majhi described corruption and irregularities in examinations as an “unpardonable crime” and warned both examination officials and those involved in organised malpractice.

The warning comes alongside the recruitment relaxations, signalling that expanding access to government examinations will be accompanied by tighter scrutiny of the examination process.

The government is also highlighting improvements in grievance redressal. Majhi said 15,000 grievances had been heard during 18 sessions since his government came to power, with 96 percent reportedly resolved.
