BHUBANESWAR: The first phase of Odisha PMAY housing allocation is likely to begin in September, provided the state completes the ongoing verification of beneficiaries and submits the final authorised list. The verification process is examining the actual housing conditions and eligibility of families identified during a statewide survey.

Around 38 lakh households have already been covered by the survey, putting the government closer to the next stage of the housing programme. Officials are working to complete field verification by August 27, after which eligible beneficiaries can be formally included in the allocation process.

Odisha PMAY Housing Allocation Moves Toward September

The progress of the housing programme was discussed in New Delhi during a meeting between Odisha Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water and Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik and Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan, other Odisha MPs and Girish S.N., Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department, also participated in the meeting.

The discussions focused on speeding up housing delivery and advancing rural infrastructure projects across Odisha. The timeline for beneficiary verification is particularly important because the first allocation phase depends on the state submitting an approved list of eligible households.

Beneficiary Verification Sets the Stage for PMAY Housing Allocation

The verification exercise is being conducted on the ground to establish whether the households identified through the survey meet the requirements for housing assistance. This step is designed to reduce the possibility of ineligible families receiving benefits while ensuring that genuinely vulnerable households are not left out.

Chouhan praised the Odisha government’s handling of the survey and verification process. Naik also reiterated the state’s position that PMAY assistance should be directed only to genuine and deserving families.

If the August 27 verification target is achieved and the authorised beneficiary list is submitted without major delays, September could mark the beginning of the first phase of housing allocations.

For rural families awaiting assistance, the next few weeks will therefore be critical. The completion of verification, approval of the beneficiary list and subsequent allocation process will determine when eligible households can move from survey status to actual housing support.
