- Temperatures crossed 40°C in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Titlagarh.
- Day temperatures expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in coming days.
The latest Odisha rain forecast suggests temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts light to moderate rain and thundershowers across several parts of the state over the next three to four days.
The weather shift comes after temperatures crossed 40°C in multiple locations, intensifying heatwave conditions in western Odisha.
According to IMD data, Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature at 40.2°C, followed by Titlagarh and Sambalpur at around 40°C.
Odisha Rain Forecast Temperature Likely to Drop
Meteorological officials said the state could see a gradual fall of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in daytime temperatures over the next four days due to incoming rain activity.
Even though some districts experienced moderate thundershowers on Saturday, the mercury still stayed above 38°C in at least seven other weather stations across the state.
The upcoming rainfall is expected to provide short term relief from the intense heat conditions.
Districts Likely to Receive Rain and Thunderstorms
The IMD said a trough line extending from central northeast Uttar Pradesh to south interior Odisha, around 0.9 km above mean sea level, is influencing current weather conditions.
Under its impact, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in several districts including:
- Mayurbhanj
- Keonjhar
- Dhenkanal
- Nabarangpur
- Malkangiri
- Koraput
- Rayagada
- Balasore
- Bhadrak
- Jajpur
- Kendrapara
- Cuttack
- Jagatsinghpur
- Puri
- Khurda
- Nayagarh
- Ganjam
- Gajapati
These conditions are expected on Sunday and Monday.
Thunderstorm Warning in Northern Odisha
The IMD has also issued a warning for thunderstorms with gusty winds between 30 and 50 kmph in parts of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.
Similar weather activity may continue in some regions on March 17 and March 18.
However, weather officials said that many other districts in Odisha may continue to experience dry conditions, despite the localized rainfall activity.
