  KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Officials are reviewing corrections with experts before printing revised editions.
  • Fresh textbooks will be distributed after the correction process is completed.

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha textbook corrections process has been fast-tracked, with the School and Mass Education Department assuring that students will receive revised, error-free textbooks within the current academic year. Department Secretary N. Tirumala Naik said corrective measures are already underway to address mistakes identified in school books and minimise any impact on classroom learning.

The department has initiated a detailed review involving subject experts and senior officials, while also considering feedback received from the public to ensure the revised content is accurate.

Odisha Textbook Corrections to Be Published Before Fresh Printing

Naik said major errors will be corrected immediately, and students will be provided with updated information until fresh editions are printed and supplied to schools. He also clarified that the number of mistakes reported publicly does not match the actual findings of the department’s review.

The department’s action plan includes:

  • Reviewing all reported errors through expert committees.
  • Publishing an updated correction list on the department’s official website.
  • Translating and refining corrections to eliminate inaccuracies.
  • Printing and distributing revised textbooks after the verification process.

Officials acknowledged that the initial correction list released by the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) also contained some inaccuracies, prompting another round of verification.

Why the Odisha Textbook Corrections Matter

Accurate textbooks are essential for effective classroom teaching and student learning. Prompt corrections help prevent confusion among students and teachers while maintaining confidence in the state’s education system.

The second-order impact of the correction exercise could be stronger editorial standards, improved quality assurance and more rigorous review mechanisms before future textbooks are approved for printing. The collaborative involvement of experienced committees and newly appointed experts is also expected to strengthen the publication process.

Naik said both previous committees and newly constituted expert panels are working together to complete the corrections quickly and transparently. He added that the department’s priority is to ensure that revised textbooks reach schools without disrupting the ongoing academic session.
