The new centre is expected to significantly ease the visa application process for residents of Odisha. Until now, applicants were compelled to travel to metropolitan cities such as Kolkata, Delhi, or Hyderabad to complete international visa formalities, leading to additional time and financial burdens.

Officials stated that the decision was taken in response to a long-standing demand from the people of the state for a visa facility in Bhubaneswar. By approving the proposal, the Chief Minister has addressed a key public requirement and strengthened the city’s infrastructure for global connectivity.

Once operational, the Global Visa Application Centre is expected to benefit students, professionals, tourists, and business travelers, further positioning Bhubaneswar as an emerging international hub in eastern India.
