PM Modi and Croatian PM Hold Talks in Zagreb

Published on

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković held high-level delegation talks in Zagreb, followed by a joint press statement in Basko Dovri. The two leaders emphasized shared global priorities and pledged to advance bilateral relations between India and Croatia across multiple sectors.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of diplomacy and peaceful resolution of conflicts, asserting that, “Whether in Europe or Asia, solutions cannot be found on the battlefield. Dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable paths forward.” He also stressed the need to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.

Condemning terrorism as a threat to humanity and democracy, Mr. Modi thanked the Croatian leadership and people for their solidarity and condolences following the terrorist attack in India on April 22.

The leaders agreed to expand bilateral trade and strengthen supply chains. Key sectors identified for enhanced cooperation include pharmaceuticals, agriculture, IT, clean and digital technologies, renewable energy, and semiconductors. Mr. Modi also noted plans to boost ties in shipbuilding and cybersecurity.

In the defense sector, India and Croatia will develop a long-term Defense Cooperation Plan covering joint training, exchanges, and defense industry collaboration.

PM Modi praised the shared democratic values—such as pluralism, equality, and the rule of law—that form the foundation of the India-Croatia relationship. He also acknowledged Croatia’s strong interest in yoga, expressing gratitude for the country’s enthusiasm in promoting the practice. He said he was confident that International Yoga Day on June 21 would be celebrated with great enthusiasm in Croatia.

His remarks reinforced India and Croatia’s growing partnership, based on mutual trust, democratic values, and a shared vision for global peace and development.
