PM Modi to Inaugurate Dwarka Expressway In Delhi, Unveils ₹11,000 Crore Highway Projects

Published on

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate two major National Highway projects worth nearly ₹11,000 crore in Rohini, Delhi on Sunday, 17 August 2025, at around 12:30 PM, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The Prime Minister will also address the gathering during the event.

The projects – the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) – have been developed as part of the Government’s comprehensive plan to ease congestion in the National Capital Region. The initiatives are aimed at improving connectivity, reducing travel time and easing traffic pressure in Delhi and the surrounding areas. The PMO noted that these projects reflect Prime Minister Modi’s vision of building world-class infrastructure that enhances ease of living and ensures seamless mobility.

The Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway is 10.1 kilometres long and has been constructed at a cost of approximately ₹5,360 crore. It will offer multi-modal connectivity for Yashobhoomi, the Delhi Metro’s Blue and Orange Lines, the upcoming Bijwasan Railway Station and the Dwarka Cluster Bus Depot.

According to the statement, Package I of this section covers a 5.9 km stretch from the Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21, while Package II extends 4.2 km from the Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana border, providing direct connectivity to Urban Extension Road-II.

The Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, measuring 19 km, was inaugurated earlier by the Prime Minister in March 2024.

Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), together with new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, built at a cost of around ₹5,580 crore. The newly completed stretch is expected to ease traffic on Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads and reduce congestion at busy junctions such as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan and NH-09.

The additional spurs will offer direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, boost industrial connectivity in the region, lower commuter traffic in the capital and facilitate faster movement of goods within the National Capital Region.

By inaugurating the Dwarka Expressway and UER-II projects, Prime Minister Modi is further strengthening regional infrastructure and delivering on the Government’s goal of creating smoother, faster and more efficient transport networks across the Delhi-NCR region.
