New Delhi: Today, India’s President, Smt Droupadi Murmu, began a two-day National Conference on ‘Environment – 2025’ in New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, the President stated that all environmental awareness days send the message that we should keep their goals and initiatives in mind every day and incorporate them into our daily lives to the extent possible. Environmental protection and promotion will only be achievable with ongoing activism based on awareness and everyone’s engagement.

The President stated that our children and the younger generation must face and contribute to environmental transformation on a much larger scale. She emphasized that the elders in every household are concerned about which school or college their children will go and what career path they will pursue. This concern is valid.

But we must also consider what sort of air our children will breathe, what kind of water they will drink, whether they will be able to hear the pleasant sounds of birds or not, and whether they will be able to appreciate the beauty of lush green forests.

She stated that these concerns include economic, social, and scientific components, but the most important point is that the challenges associated with all of these topics have a moral component. It is our moral responsibility to leave a legacy of a clean environment to future generations.

The President stated that we think that nature, like a mother, nourishes us and that we must appreciate and protect it. The foundation of Indian growth is sustenance, not exploitation; protection, not eradication. We wish to continue this legacy and work toward a more developed India.

She was pleased to see that, over the previous decade, India has demonstrated notable examples of early completion of its Nationally Determined Contributions in accordance with international accords.

The President said that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has played an important role in the environmental governance of our country. It has played a decisive role in the field of environmental justice or climate justice. The historic decisions given by NGT have a wide impact on our lives, our health, and the future of our earth. She urged the institutions associated with the environment management eco-system and citizens to continuously strive for environmental protection and promotion.
