Putin to Visit India Soon, Confirms NSA Ajit Doval During Moscow Meeting
New Delhi: National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will soon visit India, during a high-level meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu in Moscow on August 7, 2025. Doval said the summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Putin will be a “watershed moment” for bilateral ties.
“We are very excited to learn about the visit of President Putin to India… I think the dates are almost finalised,” Mr. Doval said in his opening remarks. This will be a significant development in the ongoing strategic cooperation between the two nations.
Putin Visit to India to Mark Strategic Milestone in Bilateral Ties
During the meeting, Mr. Shoigu reaffirmed the “strong, time-tested ties of friendship” between India and Russia, calling for a new round of full-scale summit-level negotiations. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the special and privileged strategic partnership based on mutual trust, respect, and shared global objectives.
“We are committed to further active cooperation to form a new, more just and sustainable world order, ensure the rule of international law, and jointly combat modern challenges,” Mr. Shoigu stated.
This will be President Putin’s first visit to India following the launch of Operation Sindoor, and comes at a time when both nations are navigating geopolitical shifts and strengthening ties within multilateral forums like the SCO and BRICS.
Background of the Visit and Strategic Context
NSA Doval’s visit to Moscow is his first since the major Indo-Russian joint initiative Operation Sindoor, though he met Russia’s Security Council Deputy Secretary Aleksandr Venediktov in Beijing during the SCO NSA summit in June.
India and Russia have continued close defence, energy, and technology cooperation, even amid growing Western scrutiny of India’s ties with Moscow. The upcoming Putin visit to India is expected to include high-level discussions on security, trade, defence, and multilateral coordination.
