Rahul Gandhi’s Voter List Allegations Trigger Political Storm: BJP Dismisses, CPI Supports

A major political storm has erupted after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission (EC) of aiding large-scale manipulation of voter lists across several states. The BJP has slammed the allegations as baseless, while the Communist Party of India (CPI) has backed Gandhi’s claims, calling the EC “not a holy cow.”

BJP Slams Rahul Gandhi for “Baseless” Accusations

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra came down heavily on Gandhi, questioning the basis of his allegations. “Why doesn’t he share data from states where the Congress has won? Where’s the evidence?” Patra asked at a press conference.

Amit Malviya, BJP IT Cell head, also joined the attack, stating,

“Not a single formal complaint has been filed. Over 60,000 booth-level agents of the Opposition are on the ground — not one has submitted proof of voter fraud.”

Malviya added that Gandhi’s claims were nothing more than “political optics” aimed at discrediting India’s democratic institutions.

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and BJP MP Kiran Choudhry also defended the EC, calling it an independent and unbiased constitutional body. Bar Council Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra ridiculed Gandhi’s remarks, saying, “What he says doesn’t impact the public.”

Rahul Gandhi Defends Claims, Calls It “Criminal Fraud”

Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi stood by his accusations.

“This is EC’s data, not ours. They haven’t denied it. We’ve shown a crystal-clear, bulletproof pattern across multiple states,” he asserted.

Gandhi alleged that the EC was complicit in a “crime against the Constitution,” and was helping manipulate voter rolls through duplicate and fake entries.

In a rare show of inter-party solidarity, CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar strongly supported Gandhi.

“This is not just Rahul Gandhi’s statement — the entire Opposition is saying the same. The EC never accepts our proposals. It is helping the government push its Hindu Rashtra agenda.”

In response to the allegations, the EC has asked Rahul Gandhi to submit a sworn declaration under Rule 20 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. The Commission insists it is following all due procedures and no opposition party has lodged a formal complaint regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar or any other state.

As India inches closer to crucial state elections and a new Vice Presidential election, the row over voter list irregularities is likely to deepen. While the BJP continues to dismiss the Congress’ claims as electoral desperation, Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition assert that the EC is turning a blind eye to systematic electoral manipulation.
