The Ministry of Railways has announced a marginal increase in train fares across various classes of passenger services, effective from July 1, 2025. The move aims to streamline fare structures and enhance the financial sustainability of passenger operations, the Ministry stated.

Revised Fare Structure

According to the new fare structure:

  • Non-AC Mail and Express Trains: Fare increased by 1 paisa per kilometer
  • AC Classes: Fare increased by 2 paisa per kilometer
  • No change in suburban single journey fares and monthly season tickets
  • Second Class Fare (Non-AC):
    • No increase for travel up to 500 km
    • ₹5 hike for 501–1500 km
    • ₹10 hike for 1501–2500 km
    • ₹15 hike for 2501–3000 km

Impact on Premium and Special Trains

The fare revision will also apply to premier train services including:

  • Rajdhani Express
  • Shatabdi Express
  • Duronto Express
  • Vande Bharat Express
  • Tejas Express

Tickets Booked Before July 1 Not Affected

The Ministry clarified that tickets booked before July 1 will remain valid at the existing fare without any need for fare adjustment.

No Change in Additional Charges

Reservation charges, superfast surcharges, and other applicable fees will remain unchanged.

The Railways emphasized that this revision is part of a broader effort to balance operational costs with service quality, while keeping the burden on passengers minimal.
