Lakhimpur: Rupamoni Gorh has created history by becoming the first woman from Assam to scale Mount Everest, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday.
Gorh, a resident of Lilabari in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, reached the summit of the world’s highest peak on Thursday as part of an all-women expedition team organised by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
Her achievement marks a major milestone for Assam and women’s mountaineering in Northeast India.
