The Indian rupee weakened by 21 paise to settle at ₹85.59 against the US dollar on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. The domestic currency came under pressure due to sustained foreign fund outflows, a decline in equity markets, and strengthening of the US dollar in global markets.
Traders attributed the rupee’s fall to rising demand for the greenback from importers, as well as general caution in global financial markets triggered by concerns over global economic growth and geopolitical tensions.
Additionally, a steep sell-off in Indian equities further weighed on investor sentiment, with the BSE Sensex plunging 636 points and the NSE Nifty dropping below the 24,550 mark.
Market participants are now closely watching upcoming U.S. economic data and the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy outlook for further cues on currency movement.
