The State Bank of India (SBI) has earned two major global honors, being named the World’s Best Consumer Bank 2025 and the Best Bank in India 2025 by Global Finance magazine. These prestigious awards recognize SBI’s digital transformation, customer-first innovation, and expanding global presence. Founded in 1806, the bank continues to evolve as a technology-driven financial institution serving over 132 million internet banking users and 287 million mobile banking clients across the world.
State Bank of India Best Consumer Bank 2025: Recognition for Digital Excellence
SBI’s ongoing investment in digital infrastructure has played a key role in achieving this recognition. In 2024, the bank reimagined its flagship You Only Need One (YONO) app with the launch of YONO 2.0, a major leap in digital banking. The upgraded app enables customers to start transactions at a physical branch and complete them digitally, and vice versa. With a modular design that enhances processing speed, SBI has ensured a smoother and faster user experience.
The bank has also introduced a tap-and-pay feature through its BHIM SBI app, utilizing India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for seamless digital transactions. Moreover, SBI launched a fully digital loan application for the Surya Ghar Loan scheme, which supports the installation of rooftop solar panels, aligning with India’s push for green and sustainable finance.

While focusing heavily on digitization, SBI continues to strengthen its traditional branch network. In 2024, the bank opened 600 new branches across rural and semi-urban India—four times more than the previous fiscal year. This dual approach ensures accessibility for underserved communities while maintaining the bank’s leadership in innovation and technology.
SBI’s chairman emphasized that the institution’s growth strategy is rooted in inclusion, technology, and customer trust. These initiatives reinforce its reputation as a global banking leader that balances digital advancement with grassroots connectivity.
