Tamil Nadu Fireworks Factory Blast Kills Six, Three Critically Injured in Virudhunagar

Published on

A tragic explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Chinnakamanpatti near Sattur claimed six lives, left five injured, and two workers missing on Tuesday morning. The blast occurred while workers were preparing fireworks, with three of the injured suffering 100% burns and currently in critical condition.

The deceased have been identified as Lakshmi, Punniyamoorthy, Ramamoorthy, Chellapandi, and Vairamani. The injured include Lingusamy, Karupasamy, Manikandan, Murugalakshmi, and Alaguraj.

Emergency services responded swiftly as Fire and Rescue teams rushed to the site to extinguish the flames. Sattur Town police have registered a case and launched a full investigation. Preliminary reports confirm that the factory held a valid license from PESO (Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation).

The bodies were taken to Sivakasi Government Hospital for post-mortem examinations, while the injured are being treated in Sivakasi and Madurai hospitals.

This incident once again raises serious concerns over safety protocols in the fireworks industry, especially in regions like Virudhunagar district, known for its concentration of cracker-manufacturing units.
