Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has said the United States could end its war with Iran within two to three weeks, while indicating that American forces will continue military operations in the region for now.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said the US military’s Operation Epic Fury could conclude soon. He also suggested that a possible agreement with Iran could emerge before the conflict ends.

Trump said the United States wants to eliminate Iran’s military capabilities before withdrawing from the region. His comments come amid continuing tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

Trump Says Iran War Could End Within Weeks

Trump indicated that the US operation against Iran may not continue indefinitely, putting a possible two-to-three-week timeframe on the conflict.

He also said the United States wants to deal with Iran’s capabilities before leaving the region. At the same time, his remarks left open the possibility of a deal that could bring the conflict to an end.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington’s objective from the beginning had been to remove what it considers the Iranian threat, particularly the possibility of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Rubio described the military campaign as a major opportunity to address the threat permanently.

US Presses Allies Over Strait of Hormuz Security

Trump has also expressed frustration over the level of military support provided by US allies during the conflict.

In an interview, he said countries that depend heavily on oil shipments through the region should take greater responsibility for protecting the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.

Trump specifically pointed to countries including the United Kingdom, arguing that Washington’s allies should contribute more to securing the strategic waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is particularly important to global energy markets because roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through the waterway.

Trump Not Ready to Withdraw US Forces From Hormuz

Despite the growing tensions, Trump said he was not prepared to withdraw US military forces involved in efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz.

He maintained that there was no major threat to the waterway while also calling for greater involvement from countries that rely on energy shipments passing through the region.

The comments highlight the importance of the Strait of Hormuz to the wider conflict. Any prolonged disruption to the route could have consequences for international oil supplies and countries dependent on energy imports.

For now, Trump has indicated that the United States will continue its military efforts while leaving open the possibility of a deal that could bring the Iran war to an end within the next few weeks.
