War 2 Advance Booking Kicks Off in India, Hits ₹2 Crore in One Day

War 2 advance booking India has officially begun, and the response from fans is already impressive. Superstar Hrithik Roshan took to social media on Sunday to announce that advance bookings for War 2 are finally open across the country. According to Sacnilk.com, by 9 PM on Sunday, advance booking collections in India had already crossed the ₹2.24 crore mark. These numbers come from around 9,000 Hindi shows across formats like 2D, IMAX, DOLBY, and 4DX, as well as 100 Tamil and 115 Telugu screenings.

The relatively low number of Telugu shows has surprised many, especially considering that the film also stars popular Telugu cinema icon Jr NTR. Despite this, the figures remain encouraging. However, War 2 will not have the opening weekend all to itself—it will face strong competition from another highly-anticipated film, Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which is scheduled for release on the same day, Thursday, August 14.

Sacnilk’s report further revealed that when “block seats” are included—these being seats reserved by theatres for spot bookings or by studios for special schemes and in-house promotions—the total value of advance bookings in India is close to ₹7.6 crore.

War 2 advance booking India Sees Mixed Global Response

Yash Raj Films (YRF) officially opened advance bookings on Sunday with a special video announcement. The post, shared on Instagram, carried the caption: “Are you ready to witness the CARNAGE in cinemas from August 14th? BOOK TICKETS NOW for #War2 and let us give you an experience to cherish for the rest of your lives Releasing in Hindi, Telugu & Tamil in theatres worldwide.”

While the domestic numbers are promising, international pre-sales have been mixed. Advance booking for War 2 in overseas markets, including the United States, began earlier last week. Initial sales there were lukewarm. For example, in the U.S., where YRF is releasing the Hindi version in around 900 screens for paid previews, only about 1,600 tickets had been sold by Sunday morning. Many theatres, particularly those screening the Hindi version for Wednesday premieres, had not sold a single ticket yet. The Telugu version, however, showed some momentum after the first day of sales.

War 2 marks the return of Hrithik Roshan as Kabir, the rogue R&AW agent introduced in the 2019 blockbuster War. This time, Kabir faces off against a new and formidable villain portrayed by Jr NTR. The film also features Kiara Advani as Kabir’s love interest, replacing Vaani Kapoor from the first film.

Speaking about working with Jr NTR, Hrithik said: “I see a lot of myself in Tarak. We have had very similar journeys for 25 years now, and I think Tarak sees a little bit of himself in me also. It is true when they say that he is a one-take final-take star. On set, Tarak, I have not just observed you, but I have learnt from you. I have learnt how to go into a shot 100%—not 99.99%, not 99.999%, but 100%. Which is why when he comes out of a shot, there is no judgement on me. He will not even check the shot because he knows he has given everything to it. And I will apply that in my future films. Tarak, thank you for teaching me that.”

Directed by Ayan Mukherji, War 2 is the latest entry in the YRF Spy Universe, which already includes the Tiger films starring Salman Khan, War starring Hrithik Roshan, and Pathaan starring Shah Rukh Khan. Upcoming entries in the franchise include Alpha, featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari.
