Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday, underscoring the importance of strengthening the China-Pakistan relationship at a time of fast-changing global dynamics. Xi said that as the world undergoes transformations unseen in a century, closer cooperation between China and Pakistan will help safeguard regional peace, development, and stability.

Xi Jinping urges deeper China-Pakistan relationship

President Xi emphasized the need to accelerate the building of a China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era. He said such an effort would not only benefit both nations but also serve as a model for regional cooperation.

Xi added that China is ready to work with Pakistan to expand and upgrade the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement. He also urged Pakistan to ensure stronger security guarantees for Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions operating in the country.

Shehbaz Sharif backs China’s global initiatives

In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised President Xi’s Global Governance Initiative, calling it an important step for global peace, development, and stability. He assured that Pakistan would fully support and actively participate in implementing the initiative.

Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to the One-China principle and expressed his government’s determination to further enhance bilateral friendship and cooperation across multiple sectors.

Pakistan pledges security for Chinese projects

Highlighting the importance of CPEC and other Chinese investments, Sharif vowed that Pakistan would spare no effort in ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals and institutions. He reaffirmed that the protection of Chinese projects remains a top priority for his government, given their vital role in Pakistan’s economic development.
