7 Injured in Russian Missile Strike on Mykolaiv; Ukraine Hits Sochi Oil Depot in Retaliation

Kyiv: At least seven civilians were injured in a Russian missile strike on the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv late Saturday night, as the ongoing war continues to escalate on both fronts. The Mykolaiv missile strike caused extensive damage to 23 private homes, 12 apartment buildings, and a post office, according to local officials.

Russian Attacks Escalate in Southern Ukraine

In a separate assault on Saturday, Russian forces targeted a key bridge in the Kherson region, which connects the city center to the Korabel district. Authorities have since urged residents to evacuate, citing safety concerns as structural damage threatens further collapse.

The attacks appear to be part of a renewed Russian push to destabilize southern Ukraine and cut off critical civilian and military infrastructure.

Ukraine Retaliates with Drone Strike on Sochi Oil Depot

Ukraine responded with a drone attack on the Russian city of Sochi, igniting a massive fire at an oil depot storing up to 2,000 cubic meters of fuel. Over 120 firefighters battled the flames, which were later brought under control.

Sochi’s mayor confirmed that no casualties were reported and that the airport, which briefly suspended flights, has now resumed operations.

Russian Defence Ministry Claims 93 Drones Destroyed

In a statement released early Sunday, the Russian Defence Ministry claimed to have intercepted and destroyed 93 Ukrainian drones across various regions overnight. The increased use of drones by Ukrainian forces reflects a shift in strategy, targeting logistics and fuel infrastructure deep inside Russian territory.

Escalation Amid Ongoing Conflict

The latest incidents mark an escalation in hostilities, with both nations intensifying strikes on critical infrastructure. The Mykolaiv missile strike adds to a growing list of attacks on Ukrainian urban centers, while the drone strike on Sochi is among the boldest Ukrainian operations inside Russian borders in recent months.

As the war drags on, the humanitarian toll continues to mount. Ukrainian authorities are focusing on civilian safety and rapid response, while Russia reinforces its defense and retaliatory strikes. Both sides show no signs of backing down, with international observers warning of further escalations in the days ahead.
