PM Modi Meets Maldives VP, Speaker to Boost Ties

Malé: As part of his ongoing state visit to the Maldives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held high-level discussions with Vice President Uz. Hussain Mohamed Latheef and Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla, aiming to further strengthen India-Maldives bilateral ties.

PM Modi and Maldivian VP Discuss Key Areas of Cooperation

In his meeting with Vice President Latheef, PM Modi focused on key strategic sectors including infrastructure, technology, climate change, and energy cooperation. Taking to social media after the meeting, the Prime Minister noted:

“Had a very good meeting with Vice President Uz. Hussain Mohamed Latheef. Our discussion touched upon key pillars of the India-Maldives friendship. Our nations continue to work closely in sectors like infrastructure, technology, climate change, energy and more. This is greatly beneficial to our people. We look forward to deepening this partnership in the years to come.”

Strengthening Parliamentary Diplomacy

In a separate engagement, PM Modi met Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Speaker of the People’s Majlis, where the two leaders spoke on parliamentary cooperation and democratic exchange. PM Modi welcomed the establishment of the India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group in the 20th Majlis, describing it as a significant step in promoting legislative collaboration.

“Met Mr. Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Speaker of the People’s Majlis. Talked about the deep-rooted India-Maldives friendship, including the close relationship between our respective Parliaments. The formation of the India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group in the 20th Majlis is a welcome step for bilateral ties. India remains committed to supporting capacity building in the Maldives.”

These meetings underscore India’s commitment to deepening ties with the Maldives across governance, development, and people-to-people linkages, aligned with its Neighbourhood First policy and shared vision for regional peace and prosperity.
