80 Victims Identified in Ahmedabad Air Crash, Including Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani

Ahmedabad, June 16: Three days after the tragic crash of Air India flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad, authorities have confirmed the identification of 80 victims through DNA analysis. Among them is former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, whose remains were officially identified late last night at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.

DNA Matching Confirms Identities; 33 Bodies Handed Over

According to Dr. Rajnish Patel, Additional Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, DNA profiling has been completed for 80 of the deceased, with 33 bodies already returned to their grieving families. Identification efforts are ongoing for the remaining victims.

Gujarat Declares State Mourning to Honour Vijay Rupani

The Gujarat government has declared state mourning today to honour the late Vijay Rupani. As a mark of respect, the national flag is being flown at half-mast on all government buildings across the state.

Final Rites in Rajkot with Full State Honours

The mortal remains of Vijay Rupani will be transported to Rajkot, where his final rites will be performed this evening with full state honours. Rupani served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021 and was widely respected for his leadership.

Authorities confirmed that DNA samples from relatives of three remaining victims are still awaited, as they reside overseas. The families are expected to arrive in Ahmedabad by tomorrow evening to assist with identification procedures.

The Air India AI-171 crash has left the nation in shock, claiming the lives of numerous passengers, including prominent public figures. The government and civil authorities continue their coordinated response to support victims’ families and expedite the identification and dignified handling of the deceased.
